Just picked up the Maxtor 200GB Shared Storage - H01P200 -
It installed pretty easily on our home network....
Used DHCP for an address.
Added an Admin password - had to look in book for "user=admin".
Then changed it from DHCP to a static address.

I setup a laptop with the mapped drive - using the Quick Start icon,
which is really just a mapped drive to the MAX share.
I wish it would ask what drive letter to assign, as it defaulted to Z:.
Disconnected and then re-established using M: for the MAX share.

One question I'll have to consider, is the disk drive timeout ?
The main desktop at home runs all the time, morning till bedtime,
wonder if I should have the MAX just run or timeout like a laptop ?

It will timeout in its own time and of its own accord. If you leave it
on permanently, this will likely take place after a couple of months.
Permanently. It's called "placing a device that generates excessive
heat into an enclosure which retains heat and has no effective means of
dissipating it."

Why do you care?

The NAS enclosure is longer than the One-Touch.
as it has a full blown OS circuit board to act as a server.
The end plate also has a small fan -

Most things break when they are turned on
vs while they are running or when they are shutdown.
This is due to either the thermal rush (ie a lightbulb burning out)
along with the mechanical startup...

One other thing I just noticed for accessing the "shares",
is how to wrestle with the MS way of handling access authentication
from one user to another user's shared area.
You can't enter the MS UserID and Password during the access,
only the MS password prompt dialog is presented....
So, I'll have to play and see if I can define all the laptop users
and then modify their accounts and access privileges
on the Maxtor Shared Storage.

Jard drives have nothing like that.

That varys depending on whether you
have simple file sharing turned on or not.

The shutdown is slightly different than documented.
We never see the LED turn amber,
it stays green & then goes off.
