Hello! I wonder if there is any program able to read the S.M.A.R.T. values
of a hardisk that is in an external USB tray. Has anybody tried something
like that?

DiskCheckup by PassMark Software that I use for internal disks cannot even
see the disk. But the disk shows up fine on windows xp device manager as a
USB hard disk.

that hooks up with the USB storage driver.

Probably because they use the standard IDE smartvsd driver.
