Hi,

Perhaps I'm using the wrong keywords, but I've been coming up empty in
trying to locate something that you would think would be in widespread use:
a simple, multi-HDD, external closure. By simple, I mean that it is
basically just consists of an enclosure, chassis, and power supply to drive
the HDD's -- without any type of controllers or bus.

I want to use such a enclosure to house and power four HDD's in a RAID
configuration. A built-in controller in the enclosure isn't needed as they
will be run on a SCSI cable, connected to a nearby tower within SCSI range.

Just looking for something prefab'd that is simple and cheap to save the
trouble of building something myself.

Good point. I guess what I described really would just be a "computer
case", anyway.

I'll try that angle. Hell, even thought of just running it all in a small
file cabinet. Saw one at a store for $20 that, with some dremel work, would
do the trick. Just wanted something that would look halfway decent.

I aint too picky though. I have an old P2 system here that I piece-mealed
together from junk to run as a wireless captive portal. Its all housed
inside a cardboard box. Did throw some spraypaint over it so it isn't
completetly cheesy though. Whatever works. :^)

Finding exactly what I was after now. Even more so, as the arrays with the
"trays" look quite appealing. (Allowing you to easily swap in/out existing
SCSI HDD's)

Now to decide on a tower or rackmount...

There are some around with USB2 controllers.

You should be able to ditch that controller.
