Using Drive Image Explorer to restore Folder
Posted by admiral_victory@iol.ie on August 25th, 2003

I use Drive Image 2002 and recently had to revert to a previous Image
File of my C:\ drive due to a problem booting W2K . I have 2 Image
Files of the C: drive one created 10 Aug and the other 20 Aug. As the
PC was using the 20 Aug version when the fault occured , I
re-installed the 10 Aug Image File.

This cured the problem , ( a failure to load the OS at Bootup) ,
but the version of IE6 contained in the 10 Aug Image File did not
include the SP1 Security Upgrade which was only included in the more
recent I.F.

Rather than go through the bother of re-downloading the IE6 SP1 , I
attempted to transfer the more recent IE6 Folder from the 20 Aug I.F.
using Drive Image Explorer.

This although appearing to transfer OK ( I received no error messages
) , did not result in SPI edition of IE6 being transferred,

Can anyone explain why this is so ?

I had always assumed that you could use D.I. Explorer to transfer
both files and Folders in this way .

You cant JUST copy a folder with an app
like IE, it has to be installed properly.

Fraid not, and not with most modern apps either.

Its only the simplest most primitive stuff you can do that with.
Stuff that doesnt update any registry entrys or dlls etc.

Thanks, I suspected that was the case - no harm in hoping though <g>
