Do 'high-speed 125' WiFi Routers work MCX faster?
Posted by CJSnet on January 31st, 2006

Hi, do the so-called '125 High-Speed Mode' routers such as those by Belkin,
offer any compatibility with Media Center Extenders to give better signal
transmission rates, and advantages like HDTV compatibility, or do they just
top out at 54g unless used with other Belkin equipment (i.e. not MCX)?

I've written about this on the Expert Zone. The answer is no, not with
extenders. In fact you may have trouble with extenders if you use the
speed boost mode.

Hi,

I tried setting up with a Belkin Pre-N MIMO router and it just didn't work
at all. Performance just about got to the "Acceptable for SD Television"
stage, but wasn't consistent. I replaced the wireless component with
ethernet over mains (http://www.solwise.co.uk/) and this works really well on
both SD and HD television using the 85Mbps devices. I know this hasn't
worked for some people though and you need to do a reg hack to force IGMP to
version 2.

My Xbox 360 now works really well while my old MCE Machine (a Carrera) is
now relegated to the study where it can be as noisy as it likes.

Cheers
