MCE/xbox360 newbie request
Posted by paladinb on April 13th, 2006

Hi all, hope some one out there can help me.

I recently got MCE and linked it with my xbox360 all that's working fine and
I watch movies and stuff streamed from my pc. Now my next job is to find out
of there any way I can use MCE to pipe my NTL channels through MCE so I can
use it as a PVR.

Has anyone done this and if so how I don't have any tv cards or anything
like that so i'd be starting from scratch.

Appreicate any help or advice !!!

Standard job for MCE, and very easy. The following is off the top of my head,
the details are in the MCE manuals;

1, Get a TV tuner card (Hauppage 150 should do) and install in your MCE, if
you don't have one already that is - I'm guessing not as you've not mentioned
watching TV on your machine
2, Connect video out from NTL box to TV card in MCE. Lots of different ways
to do this but composite video plus l and r sound should do.
3, Connect the IR extender from the MCEs IR box to over the IR sensor on
your NTL box (the MCE IR extender cable is a simple wire with a red LED on
the end of it that the MCE uses to send signals to your NTL box - so you can
control the NTL box from your MCE remote!)
4, Go to Settings in MCE and set up TV, follow on screen prompts, including;
5, Tell it it's got a cable service attached
6, Viola!

You will also see TV on your Xbox360. Get the media remote controller for
the xbox and you can contoll your mce, including the NTL set-top box from
your xbox

This is the set-up I have at home - except I use freeview not NTL, but the
theory's the same!
