PC not going back on standby after recording
Posted by Xmas on April 25th, 2006

My MCE box happily wakes up from Standby to record a program from the
TV, but then never goes back to sleep again. I've got the Power Options
set to Standby after an hour. I've tried changing this to shorter or
longer times without any joy.

If I don't use MCE at all after booting my computer then it goes into
standby properly, which makes me think that this is an MCE bug. Has
anyone else run into this? Is there any plugin/utility I can use to
force it onto standby after recording a program?

I'm using MCE 2005 (The software version info says 5.1.2715.2812 Update
Rollup 2 if that makes any difference!)

Thanks,

xmas

There is a fix in todays update for mce for suspend. not saying it will fix
this problem, but it might. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/914548

Otherwise, something is keeping the computer from sleeping. Its a matter of
figuring out what. If it sleeps all other times, the suspend fix in the
above update is related to tv tuner usage and might solve your issue and I
would start there.

I installed the fix, watched a minute of live TV and then set the
standby settings to one minute - it entered standby correctly! I've
reset the settings to my usual and we'll see if it continues to work in
anger as well as in cold blood.

Thanks very much!
