- Poor Sound with Live TV
- Posted by robdos on April 16th, 2006
Hi
First off here are my hardware specs:
Silverstone SST-LC09 Silver, Commell LV675D Mini ITX, Intel Pentium M
1.73Ghz, Hauppauge WinTV NovaT MCE
Running MCE all service packed, PowerDVD v6 Deluxe for decoders.
Now, my issue is weird. When watching Live TV the sound is poor. Its "okay"
but seems tinny with no depth or quality. However, a recorded programme
sounds brilliant. For example I just recorded the current Honda advert which
as I watched live the sound was rubbish, but when played back it was very
good - full of base etc.
I have set PowerDVD to convert 2 channel sound to 5.1, which I think is
where the difference is - I think that when playing any recorded media its
doing this, but not with Live TV.
Am I correct? Does any one know if I can fix it?
Thanks,
Rob

I also use power DVD for decoding audio and video within MCE. I have the
CLMEI-2 enabled and it churnsout synthersized 5.1 sound even with live tv
(there is no change in quality between recorded and live)
With this in mind, I am referring to my desktop machine which(as I am sure
you will be aware) are considerably more powerful than notebooks and I think
Cyberlinks min specs for using the audio/video enhancments is a Pentium 2
ghtz. The way you connect your tv card may also play a part i.e is it via
USB?
Sorry I can't be more positive, but it does sound like it is a performance
related issue.
Regards,
Dan
