- PROBLEM: Hitachi LCD TV incorrectly picking up resolution
- Posted by glynb on April 8th, 2006
i have a hitachi 32ld6200 LCD tv and an advent media center computer
plugged in via the vga input (the DVI wont detect the media center
for some reason).
when i set the resolution at 1280x768 (widescreen), the tv detects it
at 1024x768 (it displays current resolution in the corner of the
screen when you change input). this means that windows fonts tend to
be missing vertical lines, making it very hard to read.
does anyone know how i might fix this?
many thanks.

I had the same problem with my LG 32" LCD.
The first issue you mentioned regarding DVI vs VGA input is that (in my
case anyway) the TV sends incorrect data to the computer about itself.
Over DVI the TV describes itself (digital vs analogue, ideal screen
size, refresh rate etc.) via EDID. If that description is wrong then
the computer sends the signal to the TV in the wrong way and the TV
won't display it. About the only thing I could do about this would be
to buy a small box that intercepts your incorrect EDID and changes it
with the correct EDID info. I use my VGA connection instead.
I don't know about the second issue... but I had problems getting my
computer to display at 1360 x 768, it kept reverting back to 1280 x
768. So I found this tool called PowerStrip that allows you to force
other montior resolutions. It works well, although it's a bit hard to
use if you're a beginner. Maybe you could that a try.
Good luck

I have a very similar problem.
I have purchased a 30" LCD TV (1280x768) with VGA input.
I tried to connect my laptop, the video card is ATI RADEON x300. My laptop
screen is set to 1680x1050 and i set the resolution of the LCD TV to 1280x768.
somehow, the TV detects the resolution as 1024x768. just like glynb, the TV
displays the current resolution when you change inputs , and it displays "PC
- 1024x768"
Any ideas why?
Thanks in advance.
