It just strikes me as really unfortunate that Haup. PVR150/500 cards only
support s-video/composite recording. It would have been *so* much more
wonderful if they tacked on RGB input on the PAL version of these boards.
Anyone with me on this thought?

Absolutely but RGB is primarily a European standard. The US has only in recent
years come up with component which is the equivalent of RGB. There are RGB
capture cards but only the Sweetspot is within the consumer price range. It does
not however have an on-board MPEG2 hardware encoder so is not suitable for MCE.
