- Yank, can't get enough of Dr. Who! BBC Media Player?
- Posted by Cap10Rich on November 17th, 2007
I was on AOL and I saw an article for the BBC's Dr. Who doing a charity
event. I have Vista but can't seem to get the Media Player to work. I was
wondering if there's a special BBC Media Player download that I need to play
this episode or any BBC shows? Post it or email me at cap10rich@aol.com.
Thank you.

Do you mean the Dr Who: Time Crash 'episode' in which the Tenth Doctor meets
the Fifth played on the recent BBC Children in Need telethon?
The BBC clips play in regular Media Player or Real Player - no special
software needed. Unfortunately, however, I believe that one needs a UK
registered IP address. Using a UK hosted proxy might help ...

While a Proxy Server can be used for tasks such as anonymous web browsing or accessing sites that

your own private proxy server so that you could access it from outside the UK but that is a
far-fetched scenario for most users.

Very true although you could set it up to download the shows overnight from
iPlayer. Therefore it could go slower.

Hi Ejsime,
Unfortunately the BBC iplayer only works within the UK. I am not aware of
any other location that the series can be downloaded.
Maybe you'll need to buy the dvd...

Amazon Unbox sells older Dr Who episodes as downloads, and has done so for
quite some time.
This is intensely annoying as Amazon Unbox is only available in the US, and
in the UK - where Dr Who is actually made (and paid for by UK viewers) there
is still no legal way of purchasing a download of Dr Who.
While the BBC has finally started to sell some programmes on the UK iTunes
store (including Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes) Dr Who and Torchwood are
not yet available.
The crass stupidity of the movie/tv/music companies and even artists
(Beatles anyone?), is utterly unbelievable.
