AQUARIAN AGE: SIGN FOR EVOLUTION (VOLUMES 2 AND 3) (reviewed by Sandra
Dozier, overall score 92/100):
"I found myself caring about these characters and enjoying the story.
This is not a fighting-girl anime, and it isn't even really a metaphor
for religion or spirituality, although those elements heavily
influence events. Instead, what it boils down to is the inner struggle
everyone faces at some point in his or her life when they have to
either change or die."

BEHOLD A PALE HORSE (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 81/100):
"Unfortunately the movie seems slow, and never gets to the really dark
places it so desperately wants to go. It's too pretty and doesn't
explain the ugly parts. The black and white photography sets the right
mood, but all the studio glamour and the idealized shots of France
undermine the darkness of the source material."

THE DAICHIS: EARTH'S DEFENSE FAMILY: DEBT-DOOMED (VOLUME 2) (reviewed by
Joel Pearce, overall score 70/100):
"The biggest problem with the series is the development team's reliance
on the same small well of jokes, and it's already getting dry."

GANTZ: AFTERSHOCKS (VOLUME 3) (reviewed by Mitchell Hattaway, overall
score 60/100):
"These episodes are an improvement over the previous four due to the
more character-driven nature of the plots and the absence of the
pointless violence and gore. There's not a quantum leap in quality, but
at least it's a step in the right direction."

HEROIC DUO (reviewed by Joel Pearce, overall score 81/100):
"Full of action and short on logic, Heroic Duo represents everything
that we've come to expect from Hong Kong's over saturated action market.
The premise is preposterous and everything, the kitchen and bathroom
sink included, has been thrown in to keep the audience entertained."

NEW GETTER ROBO: RUDE AWAKENINGS (VOLUME 1) (reviewed by Mitchell
Hattaway, overall score 60/100):
"New Getter Robo is a re-imagined/updated version of the original Getter
Robo television series. Getter Robo, which was created by Go Nagai and
Ken Ishikawa back in the mid '70s, has spawned numerous incarnations,
one of which was brought to the States back in the early '80s as
Starvengers. I can remember watching Starvengers when I was in
elementary school, and I have to say that this idea was a hell of a lot
more interesting when I was 11."

POPOTAN: VANISHING HOUSE (VOLUME 1) (reviewed by Sandra Dozier, overall
score 80/100):
"Those watching this series chiefly for the voyeuristic pleasure of
seeing up a girl's skirt may be disappointed by the sweetness of the
sentiment in each story, which seems to minimize the naughtiness of
their nakedness."

SEXY GAY FAVORITES (reviewed by Brett Cullum, overall score 82/100):
"Sexy Gay Favorites seems like a strange title for a box set that could
be labeled anything else. Maybe 'Films That Make a Social Statement
About Sex' would be more apt, but it certainly wouldn't sell well."
