- Falling Star/Rising Star(e.g.,GIRL,INTERRUPTED,DREAMGIRLS)

The ostensible star of some films end up being overtaken by a co-star or
supporting player. Perhaps the most recent example may be DREAMGIRLS,
wherein Jennifer Hudson blew away Beyonce. Though, she could have been a one
shot wonder. Let's hope not. I believe if she works on her acting and visits
the gym (just please don't get skinny!), she'll have a long career ahead of
her.
A couple of relatively recent examples of "Falling Star/Rising Star" that
stick in my mind are:
GIRL, INTERRUPTED ('99)
Winona Ryder / Angelina Jolie
&
NED KELLY ('04)
Heath Ledger / Orlando Bloom
What are some of your examples, Present, Recent Past, Hollywood Golden Age &
the Silent Period?
Thanks...Curtin/Dobbs

This is not the same as Girl Interrupted or Desperately Seeking Susan,

Jennifer Hudson's character is a very rare instance of the supporting
role that IS the starring role in the film. It was the same way
onstage. Effie is the emotional centre of the story, the symbolic
battleground between old school R&B and new school black pop. The
Deenie character (Beyonce's part) never carried that weight.

Well, Beyonce was never really a "Star". She IS a performer, and got
lucky enough to get some roles in Hollywood.
Her acting performances are mediocre, at best, and an acting role that
involves singing is one main reason she was chosen.
The Hudson gal is from AI, IIRC.
Why would this be cross posted into a silent movie group?
Why are there so many retards authoring posts in Usenet?

declared:
How was Ledger a falling star? At this point in his career, he was
still being hyped as The Next Big Thing even though his biggest film
was A Knight's Tale; after this he went on to Brokeback Mountain.

The most extreme example I can think of is The Outsiders.
The two leads:
C. Thomas Howell
Ralph Macchio
Almost every single supporting cast member became bigger than those
two combined.
Patrick Swayze
Matt Dillon
Tom Cruise
Rob Lowe
Emilio Estevez
and Nicolas Cage has a cameo in the rumble scene.
