I'd like to get a portable DVD Player but not sure what to look for.
Can anyone suggest some ideas and recommend a few?

1. Portable DVD players have very high failure rates outside a year, no
matter what brand.
2. This is one case where you absolutely must have a service contract past
the warranty.
3. I have been through six or seven portable DVD players in 3 years. The
alarming thing is that I only used these portables infrequently in pristine
conditions.
4. Frankly, the one that has worked the best and longest is an off-brand
'Initial.' Go figure.
Toshiba, Panasonic, RCA etc etc all failed.
My conclusion....get an inexpensive player with a warranty and be prepared
to use that warranty and the hassles involved

I went down this path just a couple months ago
and settled on the Polaroid 10.2" player for $400,
the size to price ratio spanks most other players
and the picture quality rocks.

I bought the Cyberhome CH-LDV 712 (www.cyberhome.com) and am very pleased with
it. It can play DVD's from all over the world via a remote control hack listed
here http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks
Also check out the players at Costco, they have a good return policy.

I did a lot of research and ended up getting the Panasonic DVD-LS50 7"
Portable DVD Player. I bought it at Amazon for about $350. You can
check out the reviews here:

Panasonic portable DVD players have a very sharp and clear picture --
seems to me to be much better than the Toshiba for example, which
skipped more and had higher screen contrast. This payers handles DVDs,
DVD-Rs and MP3 files really well.
There are some other good players (some less expensive) you can find
in the Portable DVD Player Buyer's Guide:

If you want a cheaper one, try the Audiovox D1501 5.8" Portable DVD
Player. It has a smaller screen than the Panasonic but is a great deal
for the price (about $170 on Amazon).

They have a good return policy too so if you have problems with the
players they can take it back.
Good luck!!
