- Should my Receiver take a while to start up?

Hi, I have an Onkyo TX-SR602 receiver. It takes about three to five
minutes to start producing sound. The unit is turned on, but then all
of a suddent the sound will start. I have only tested it with DVD,
fiber audio, component video. The video works immediately. Just the
sound. Should I return the unit? Thanks for any help.

Try exchanging it. Mine takes maybe 5 seconds to produce sound - I
have a much older Onkyo.

Yeah, something is broken (probably the digital audio input). A delay of
up to 15 seconds isn't unusual for some newer units that go through self-
tests before they are completely on, but 3 minutes is way too long.
Now, it could be that your DVD player is sending slightly out of spec
digital audio, and it takes a while for the receiver to sync up, but then
you would have the same problem every time you turned off the DVD player
without turning off the receiver.

Thanks I took it back. I never had the problem with my $99 cheapie
Sherwood, so I figured it was the receiver.
