- "*.exe is not a win32 valid application" and reboot
- Posted by bottecchia on December 22nd, 2005
Hi,
my problem is that when I call .exe files downloaded from internet, I
have the message: "*.exe is not a win32 valid application". It happens
with all and only the files downloaded from internet. An other strange
thing is that after a while I am connected to internet, I receive the
message of reboot ( the Sasser-like message!) and after 60 seconds
there is the shutdown. I've tried with removal tools for Sasser, but
they haven't work! I've formatted two times, but the problem remains.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advice!

That's usually a sign of a corrupt IE installation. Does it happen
when you d/l files using a alternate browser such as Firefox or
Mozilla? What version of Windows? Have you tried reinstalling just
IE?
The best way to eliminate malicious code as the cause is to do a
formal scan of the drive using a alternate OS and a top notch
antivirus product or two. Short of doing that, you can try a online
scan:

Alternatively, after you can d/l files you might try KASFX from my web
site.

Go to Control Panel, Internet Options, and in the "Temporary Internet files"
box, click "Delete files" and confirm the deletion. Then try the download
again.
Most antivirus vendors have free or trial versions available for download.

F-PROT http://www.f-prot.com
