I often receive "Delivery Status Notification (Failure)"? What is it?
Posted by BJ on April 22nd, 2004

I often receive "Delivery Status Notification (Failure)" from the mailbox I
never sent to with the ATTxxxxx.txt attachment. What is it? Is it a virus
email? Is it a local virus on my pc? Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Is a way to prevent it? Thanks.

is really a double extension file (atnxxxx.txt.pif, or something like that).

If it don't work, hit it.
If it still don't work, kick it.
If it works after that, than it doesn't matter if that helped, what's
important is it works.

mention why the attachment would be a .txt file.

Very unlikely. You would have to (1) identify the actual computer that is
infected and then (2) get the user of that computer to clean it up,
perhaps by direct request, perhaps by bugging the user's ISP. And then
repeat (1) and (2) for each additional computer that is infected and has
your addy.

And remember, your addy might have gotten on computers to which you never
sent e-mail. I know that is true for my addy, from people using it in an
e-mail with a long CC: list.

I just have my anti-spam software kill 'em.

Most likely it's "Netsky.Q"...
Or at least that's what AVG is pegging all the similar viral spam that
I'm getting from some infected Australian. It'd be funnier if it
weren't for the secondary junk I'm also getting from "the bouncers".

I'm up to three a day from this puttz...
Mostly sent to my disposable Usenet alias, "smamnet-apr".

of the same. It's other people's infected computers that are causing them
to do it - not necessarily yours.
