This is a NG for fighting viruses, not for distributing them.

Well about polyboot 512... I need that virus becuase I think (yes I use
to do that) that could help to fight agains illegal copy from my
software... actually I am using license control software to distribute
my software along with the hole pc.

my BIG problem is that my copy protection scheme could easyli be
defeated using drive image 2002 and because the research I made about
how this product works I discovered that if the MBR from the hard drive
is encrypted it wont be able to work resulting in a more secure copy
protection system for me

thanks for any help sugestions and comments.

comment 1: software copy protection is a lost cause... all schemes can
be defeated... piracy is a social problem for which there is no
technological solution...

comment 2: fight-back-ware (you said you wanted to fuck a computer up)
is almost certainly illegal regardless of what you feel your rights as a
software developer ought to be...

suggestion 1: go talk to a lawyer...

That's the cost of doing business. Nobody want's to have your
software put something on the machine that can't be removed.

I don't like this idea. I reminds me of Pakistani Brain.

Don't muck around with the rest of the system just to implement your
own DRM scheme. Find a way to just disable *your* program and
leave the rest of the system intact.

Accept the fact that there will be a way around your DRM unless
and until DRM can be implemented in hardware or software that
is inaccessible to users..

BTW ~ anybody have any links that explain how Nortons DRM
scheme works? I have been led to believe that they don't muck
around with the boot sector or BIOS.

I assume you've read their blurb on it:

(Watch for wrapping).

From that writeup, it looks similar to Microsoft's idea - seems to use
unique parts of a system to create a key which is later compared to see
if changes have been made.

"13. Q. Does Symantec's product activation compromise my privacy?
A. No. Symantec's product activation for Norton AntiVirus 2003 is a
completely anonymous process. The only user information required to
complete product activation is your activation key and machine
configuration in the form of an alphanumeric code. Neither the
activation key nor the alphanumeric code contains any personally
identifiable information that could be traced back to you. Symantec
values and completely respects your privacy."

Maybe this will work.

Dear ignorant fucktard,

This is a non-binary group. Furthermore, no one cares what your
problems are at school nor do we care to participate in your retarded
antics.

Please do the gene pool a favor and go kill yourself.

Yeah, they are suprisingly quiet about how it works, what you need to do
if there are issues, how long you can re-activate for (Can you
re-activate in 2 years?) and those sorts of things.

As long as it works along the lines of: You lose a HDD, re-activate over
the net, all is ok. If you re-activate more than twice in a
month/year/whatever arbitrary length of time you have to call and
justify/explain what has happened then it should be ok.

If it's just "We'll only let you re-activate once or twice" or you have
to jump through many hoops then that's not good at all.
