"Pathetic video"? Try http://Vmyths.com/mm/rants/2002/0728.asx then. I've
got dozens more if you want entertainment, David.

Since you decided to {ahem} critique Vmyths, let me critique your. I did a
quick Google-web on you. It responded with "about 213" hits. The deeper
you travel into those pages, the more Google refines its filters until it
reaches 50 -- and that's still counting a lot of duplicate pages, David.
Oh, I'll admit you earned an impressive thank-you from the Seti@Home team.
I'm currently in 4,440th place and I thank you for helping the search. You
also got mentioned on 4Q's website -- no mean feat, even for a long-term
participant on ACV.

But other than that, you don't register on Google's webmeter. And you don't
seem to show up on the web before 2002. The search didn't return a single
article, opinion piece, or editorial by you. Just a bunch of usenet (or
usenet-like) postings where you gave short, helpful technical advice.

I did a quick Google-groups on you. It responded with "about 4,640" hits,
counting all the replies that quote something you posted. 1,120 of them
appear in alt.comp.virus and date back to 1999; none of them include a
reference to "Rosenberger" or "Vmyths" or "Kumite." You seem to appear
nowhere else on usenet from 1999 until Sep 2002. You've proven very
prolific since then -- but you still only wrote a bunch of usenet postings
where you often gave short, helpful technical advice.

Filter out ACV, filter out your tech posts, and you begin to see "blog
comments," e.g. your reply about same-sex marriages in Canada.

I searched for you on Amazon.com. A guy with your name (no initial)
published some sports books. I searched for "lipman" in the 1989-2003 Virus
Bulletin PDF archives. Nothing. Mind you, I earned passing mentions for
years in VB before Francesca finally *begged* me in 2000 to write a guest
editorial. You don't show up at all.

I'm one of the two most-feared critics in the antivirus industry, David.
You're just a blogger. I'm "god with a little g" here in ACV. You're just
a heckler. My audio rants since 2001 would fill 12 CDs and they run for
free on computer talk shows at small radio stations. It seems Vmyths'
*fans* do more videos than you
(http://Vmyths.com/mm/humor/switch/fecyk.avi).

Hell, Bart came up with a pithy critique of my video and he didn't even try
hard!

You want to critique Vmyths? Fine. Write up something with substance
(repeat: "substance") and I'll post it as a letter to the editor. I'll give
you a soapbox so you can tell our readers why you won't miss Vmyths.

Then you can print out a copy and laminate it for your cherished portfolio
of letters to the editor. Make sure you send the Vmyths URL to everyone in
your cubicle farm, David. "See? That's my name at the bottom!" Ignore any
coworkers who roll their eyes: they don't realize the importance of your
contributions to society...

Rob

PS: remember Jack's dismissal of Vmyths the other day? He doesn't even use
a last name. Another blogger, another heckler...

Costin questions my sanity, too.

450+ columns at Vmyths.com carry my byline, so you've got plenty of material
for a substantive critique. Please give ACVers some examples of my "stuff
[that] is so far out."

Ironically, Kurt, I wanted to critique your own opinion pieces, but I
couldn't find them. Your one major contribution to the public ("anti-virus
cook book") has languished since July 1999. Your "members.tripod.com"
website has languished since August 2000. Your name doesn't show up in
Virus Bulletin 's 2000-2003 archives. You don't show up in Amazon.com...

google groups, rob, google groups... my opinions are all here... well,
the ones of interest, anyways...

true, but it has been referenced in university course material... i
wouldn't call that my only major contribution to the public, however...
maybe my only contributed artifact... mostly my contributions are
ephemeral... i have no desire to build myself a monument of items,
articles, and references...

if only i had more energy left over after work... i fully intend to do
more work on it, but at least one of the pages on my site (i think folks
who are familiar with it can guess which one) takes a lot of work...

no, why should it? i could say that i'm the moderator of fido echos
virus, virus_info, and dirtydozen, but as they're mostly dead these days
that's not a big deal either...

again, why should i? i don't even buy books from amazon...

dear, oh dear... i have nothing to toot my own horn with... whatever
shall i do... just keep offering assistance when i can, i guess...
