on my Windows 98 machine.
I pressed "Start" then "find" then "files or folders" then in the
top dialogue box I typed *.htm and found the s.htm file and was able to
delete it.
I also did the same for the "hosts" file which had a list of Porn sites.
There was some registry work as
well (to fix change the settings for email signatures as they were tied to
the s.htm file.
Try checking McAfee and Symantec (Google, search) to see what they have to
say about "Fortnight.B" or C or D etc. Also a good description of
Fortnight is on TrendMicro. quote
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/viru...e=JS_FORTNIGHT
..C
end quote - if link does not work, copy and
paste the URL address.
Did you by any chance lose your internet tab settings?
I'm not sure which Fortnight you got but the
antivirus websites as mentioned above have info on all of them. Also
check their encyclopedias of viruses and search for "fortnight"
Another thing you can try is download "Spybot Search & Destroy"
available from
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?l...&page=download
It's possible you have a dialer as well. Spybot will
will identify & remove the dialer and some of the registry entries.
I don't have XP but I hope I am of some help to you.
