in. She is still a knock out and beautiful to me and when we met well I
will just say that she had her pick and had to beat them off with a stick;
because well as we hillbillies are found of saying she was a brick shit
house with no bricks out of place

If my husband told me I looked like a 'brick shit house with no bricks
out of place', his ears would still be ringing 42 years later......plus
he would probably still be single!! Hardly a romantic comparison,
hillbilly or not.

lol, I guess it must be an inside hillbilly joke. iow, a brick shit
house would be a ritzy, well built and desirable out house or privy as the
locals call one. Not having a brick out of place equates to being perfect
and no wrinkles and created for the long haul. I guess it would sound a bit
off to someone that isn't a hillbilly.

I agree Art. It is sort of like when women get on to guys for checking
out girls and acting like they don't do the same thing to guys. The only
difference I guess is that men are more up front with their ogooling then
women are, <s>

As I understand the term, in the UK, when you refer to someone as being
"built like a brick shit house" it means they are of stocky muscular
build. A term you might use when describing a heavyweight boxer. Hardly
an endearing term for a woman, imho.

.... The term has been around for a very long time. From one source:

You may think: I've heard of people being deaf to secondary
associations, but this takes the cake. Well, no. The guy who first
used "built like a brick shithouse" to describe a woman with a nice
figure wasn't thickheaded, just a smart-ass. From the Random House
Historical Dictionary of American Slang we learn that: (a) the phrase
and its euphemistic variants date back at least to 1903; (b) said
variants replace "shithouse" with switch shanty, schoolhouse,
slaughterhouse, or backhouse, among others; and (c) all were
originally--and more sensibly--applied to men of solid or powerful
build. When said of women, one 1938 source notes, the phrase usually
meant a "heavy, cloddish, sexually unappetizing female." But even in
the 1930s a few wiseguys were applying it to attractive women, and in
the U.S. that usage has now supplanted all others.

But not everywhere. In Australia and the UK, at least, "built like a
brick shithouse" still most commonly refers to well-built men.
Therefore be advised to use caution in tossing this phrase about
whilst abroad; you may be taking your life in your hands.

... also remember the Commodores doing a song "Brick House"...

....:-) Keep it alive, Sug.

Art, Art, Art........if I say a man is a hunk, he is one good-looking,
muscular, well-tanned guy.......being compared to a brick shithouse is
not flattering. I am picturing a Russian weightlifter with that
expression or discus thrower, grin.

Btw......you still look like Roy Orbison in your younger days...grin.

did you ever read aldus huxley's "brave new world"? there's a part in
that story where the main female character and another female character
discuss the topic of being 'pneumatic', where being 'pneumatic' is a
good thing unless you're 'too pneumatic' (and of course there's no set
guideline for what constitutes being 'too pneumatic')... pneumatic ~=
voluptuous (in the story, not in real life)...

maybe you should have told her she looked like an angel, instead... (of
course flattery only works when it's sincere)

No wonder I got myself in deep doodoo

All I meant was "well built". "Stacked". "Sexy". And even
"attractive".

As I said, nothing really much different from when a gal claims a guy

In the U. S. of Hillbilly it just means "well built". I never even thought
about applying the term to a male <shudders> ~ leave it to the UK to
come up with that one. :O)
