Why do you have Thailand blocked ???

(Following is a long, drawn-out, rambling post on why I blocked
certain ranges of IP addresses from accessing my website. ACV
old-timers familiar with the Millennium D-i-c-k-h-e-a-d* saga
need not bother reading it, 'cause they already know why.)

*Better to munge both his name and nickname (courtesy of 4Q)
just in case he searches Google Groups' archive for refs to
himself.

Thailand?? First I heard of Thailand being blocked.

Your ISP must share the same range of IP addresses that New
Zealand uses. Unfortunately, so does Australia.

Perhaps I'll unblock NZ... I think my pal 4Q and I did a fine
job of kicking New Zealand's own B-r-i-a-n "Millennium
D-i-c-k-h-e-a-d" B-a-r-l-e-v'-s butt off usenet! I don't think
he even lurks here, anymore! :-D Not that I'm superstitious or
anything, but I keep thinking that if I unblock NZ he'll return
to acv.

Fwiw, D-i-c-k-h-e-a-d was obsessed with me. He'd post about me
all the time, start new threads about me, etc. (Unrequited
love, I suppose. What a lamer!) He'd check my website every
day, e-mail me, etc. I finally blocked the range IPs his ISP
used. He would also visit internet cafes and libraries to post,
so I ended up having to block *all* of NZ. :-(

Fyi, for you and other acv newbies, the Millennium
D-i-c-k-h-e-a-d was the Scourge of ACV. Or, as Rob Rosenberger
so eloquently put it in one of his columns, "gadfly". ;-)
http://vmyths.com/rant.cfm?id=318&page=4
(paragraph 6)

All B-a-r-l-e-v ever posted was long, drawn-out, off-topic
ramblings (not unlike *this* post, lol!) filled with obscure
references that no one but him ever got. Crap totally unrelated
to av/vx! Stories about his life (or lack thereof, as we used
to say, heh), mountain-climbing, boats, President Bush, lakes,
hair-brained ideas... (Hey 4Q! Remember "Scum Lake"? LMAO!)

He also posted many times that he was writing a book (forgot
what it was going to be about) but he never got anywhere with
it. ("Chapter 0", as 4Q called it, hahaha!) He also rambled on
about a protocol he says he created for virus writers to submit
their stuff to av companies. (Or sumthin' like that. Who
remembers? Or CARES!)

D-i-c-k-h-e-a-d made himself the laughing stock of the av
industry when he showed up dressed as a viking -- complete with
helmet, shield and spear! -- at VB2000 (was it 2000?) and got
photographed in this ridiculous get-up. Who here will ever
forget that photo of B-a-r-l-e-v in that stoopid viking
costume? NO ONE! ;-)

If all that crap wasn't bad enough, many of us also hated him
'cause he *bragged* about setting up Melissa virus writer David
L. Smith. He boasted that he befriended Smith online, then sent
the info he gathered about him to the FBI. (Though we're pretty
sure the Bureau ignored his long, drawn-out theories, lol!)

I think the final straw for all of us was when he posted that
he wanted to make a presentation at VB2003 and was writing the
abstract to submit -- but never got around to it. (Loser.)
Right after that, he suddenly stopped posting and updating his
blog. (Made for him by andi -- one of the acv regulars now in
alumni mode -- as encouragement to stop posting his OT crap in
acv and instead put it in a blog.)

D-i-c-k-h-e-a-d'-s blog:
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/e3m3m/

Anyway, that's the long, drawn-out, rambling story ;-) of why I
blocked New Zealand. ;-)

This is but one example of many that Barlev can use to peruse your
site from NZ (or anywhere else) if he wants to. Just by entering the
approriate URL into the appropriate box.

Yes, you can block this too if you wish, but there are so many others
that a determined stalker might use that you would have to block
everyone, which rather defeats the purpose. I think it's safe to say
that if Barlev returns to acv it won't be because you unblocked access
to your website from NZ

Okay, Bart, let the truth be known... I blocked your ISP,
PacBell -- THE SAME ONE MY BEST FRIEND (and her whacked
ex-fiance) USES! -- because of YOU. You were consuming too
much bandwidth by using (ugh) offline website copiers -- hated
by webmasters the World (Wide Web) over!

Happy, now? Convinced that I blocked PacBell because of Y-O-U?
Convinced that I would purposely block my sites from my BEST
FRIEND 'cause some guy in SoCal was playing dirty?

Hmm... Actually, that does kinda sorta sound like a good
reason, lol! I think I'll say that now; hope you don't mind. If
anyone who uses PacBell asks me why they're blocked, I'll just
say "Bart Bailey".*

*Where's that damn winky emoticon when you need it!

"Because I can."

LMAO! I may be old, Bart, but you'll always be older! :-P

Unfortunately, for every one of those there were 20-odd
