- SAV80CE - change client to managed?
- Posted by This Old Man on June 25th, 2003
Symantec Anti-Virus Corporate Edition V8.0 and I need to change all the
Win98/2000/XP Clients from Unmanaged to Managed to get updates from an
internal server.
How the heck am I supposed to do this for all my clients? I created a new
install package but it will not remove the old package first so it doesn't
change to "managed". Am I missing something? Please tell me I don't have to
touch every client and uninstall just so I can then do the automated
install.
Thanks

I'm not a specialist but I would suggest that you first remove GRC.DAT
before installing the new version.
By the way : is the 8.1 version available ?

Depends on your environment. If you are using Novell + Zenworks, it's
a snap. Capture an uninstall using the snapshot tool and push the
resulting package to your users via the Novell Application Launcher.
Another thing you can do is use Wise Package Studio or Prism Deploy to
make simliar uninstall/install packages if you are not using Novell. Of
course, you have to buy these and they ain't cheap.
On the other hand, you do have techincal support from Symantec and
there may be a trival solution to switching them from unmanaged to
managed, so I would contact them before doing anything.
