Anti-Rootkit Tool? 'When Security Software Goes Bad'.............A
new report says that exploiting vulnerabilities in anti-virus,backup
software programs and worm removal software is currently quite popular
-- and not all security firms have .......

am i at threat now if i download their tools and run in my pc? i also
found articles comparing these vulnerabilities to the famous sony
rootkit security threat.

am i inviting un-wanted guests to my OS by using their tools?

the details are as follows

Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition, the Secret Anti-Rootkit Tool?

A reader tells me that back in August Symantec AntiVirus Corporate
Edition 10's "Tamper Protection" feature detected what, in retrospect,
was the rootkit in the First 4 Internet DRM software from a Sony CD. It
deleted the rootkit, resulting in the loss of the CD drive, and the
reader was able to figure out how to get the drive back. Only now does
it seem an important event.

So why isn't Symantec bragging about this? Well, maybe they have and I
missed it, but I suspect that since the rootkit problem is largely a
consumer problem, this episode underscores a deficiency in their
consumer products relative to the corporate editions.

This has been discussed at length in other threads. For example, see
"Caution SONY Music CDs have trojan Malware".
