- Alphabetizing Favorites Folders
- Posted by RB on February 28th, 2004
I have Windows ME and Office 2000, but couldn't see an appropriate place to post this. I have never been able to automatically alphabetize my Favorites FOLDERS. I have always had to do it manually. However, lately, any new folder that I add to my favorites jumps down to the bottom of my list EVERY TIME I close out Windows. It will not allow me to reorganize my favorites folders and have them STAY where I put them. I have tried everything. I have manually moved the folders. I have manually moved the folders in the "Organize Favorites" box. I have opened up my Favorites in Windows Explorer and made sure they are solidly organized there--clicking on the name column twice, to organize them, reverse the alphabet, and reverse it back--to anchor them in place! NOTHING WORKS!!!! I am extremely frustrated with this!!! I am also very frustrated with the difficulty of finding ANY place to get help (essentially, lack of help!) on the Microsoft Windows website!!! Thank you for any help anyone can offer!

Greetings --
In Internet Explorer, left-click the Favorites menu to open, then
right-click on said menu and select "Sort by Name."

Doug and Bruce,
Thank you both for attempting to help me, but I do NOT
have the option of "sorting by name" in the drop-down menu
when I right click on a Favorites folder. Please try
again!! Thank you! RB

Stored in registry as a binary here for display in "Favorites" listings
maybe TweakUI will sort that, but it sounds like you have a profile that
is not saving settings anymore so you ought to be more concerned about that.

You may have misunderstood the directions. To get to the "sort by name"
options, click Favorites on the IE menu bar, between View and Tools. The
right-click on one of the entries in the drop-down list. "Sort by name"
is the next-to-last entry on the right-click menu, just above Properties.
