applications running slow on WIN2K PRO
Posted by Stephen Pirtle on August 5th, 2003

I have a WIN2K PRO running SP2 on my network and all of the sudden as of
yesterday an app that makes a connection on the network is running horribly
slow.

I checked for viruses and found none.
I upgraded to SP3.
I uninstalled TCP/IP and reinstalled it.
I ran chkdsk and it found no errors.
I uninstalled some of the apps and reinstalled them.
I scanned the pc for spyware and looked for any unusual apps.
I brought up Taskmanager and closed every process it would let me close.

What else is there to check? I cant afford the time to start his pc over
from scratch. The user did not install anything on the pc recently.
Help!!!

Do a system clean using a tool from , Start -> All Programs ->
Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup

Double check to make sure your temporary internet files, and temp directory
are clean.

If you are letting system manage the Virtual memory, try changing to
allocate a virtual memory and see if this helps..

I tried that one already, even moved the virtual memory to a separate drive.

Also ran the long chkdsk to check for bad sectors and found nothing.

ok this is ridiculous

decided to go ahead and uninstall and reinstall File and Printer Sharing and
it works fine now as long as Client for Microsoft Networks is disabled

went ahead and uninstalled and reinstalled Client for Microsoft Network and
no change, still has slow starting network apps argggggggg!!!!!!

so I have it isolated to the Client for Microsoft Networks, it is disabled
on the pc right now so the user can function

Im going to load SP4 on the DC and SP4 on the problem pc and see what it
does

any idea what can cause this?
