- Cannot Remove NTFS Drives with Recovery Console

My PC ran fine for months with Windows 2000 Professional.
Now, I am having various problems so I attempted to format
the hard drive using Recovery Console per the Microsoft
Support directions.
The system lets me go throug the entire process, but when
I type "Y" to confirm that I want to format the drive,
withing five seconds I get another C:\WINNT prompt, then I
type exit.
The computer restarts but my "C" drive (my only hard
drive) has not been reformatted.
Any ideas???

There is no need to use the recovery console to format your
disk. Simply boot your machine with your Win2000 CD,
select "Install Win2000" when prompted, then allow your
disk to be formatted.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Win2k CD-rom;
change to the \bootdisk directory on the cd-rom and execute makeboot.exe
(from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.
When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.
