Created/Modified - Reversed?
Posted by CWLee on February 4th, 2004

For a few years my folders have displayed files showing a
column called "modified". I recently added the column
"created" but in each folder in which I do that ALL the
files are shown as being created on the same date
(1.17.2004) but with various modified dates going back to
1994. It appears to me that the dates in the modified
column are the real creation dates, and I have no idea why
1.17.2004 is shown instead.

Any explanations? Thanks.

"Created" will show the date that the file was allocated. If you copy
files from another source, the created dates on the target will all show
the date that the copy was performed, while the modified dates may be
preserved and continue to show the date that their content was modified.
Restoring from a backup may have the same effect.
