Its a bit late now but you should have run sys compatibility checker.
The printer prob may be simply a question of updated drivers, visit printer
manu. site for updates.
The same may apply to yr modem, and various other hardware, eg
graphics/sound cards.
Its unusual for apps not to work, unless they are that old, what msgs/apps?
As for going back to w98 this may depend on how you installed Win2K
You 'may' have no otion other than a format/install - if so ensure any data
is backed up you will also have to reinstall any apps.
Generally when installing a new o/s its better to do a clean install

Agreed, probably all driver and or bios compliancy issues. To wipe the
drive, some ways include; boot a win98 startup disk, run fdisk and delete
all partition information found (as long as NTFS is primary). Or boot the
Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks and when you get to the point, delete the
existing NTFS and or other partitions found, then abort the
install. Or use a utility named delpart. Once removed you can boot the Win98
CD-Rom or restore CD-Rom to start your install.

Make sure you have your product key BEFORE you try to reboot anything!
