Extremely slow Shutdown, takes 10...15 mins
Posted by John7 on November 4th, 2003

Hi,

Shutting down my friends Win2000 pro PC takes 10...15 mins.
His profile is 42MB.

Found Cprofile in MS KB but it requires Terminal Services
but I can't find how to install it.

What can we do to speed up the shutdown?

TIA,
John7

Is it a local or roaming profile?

In news:bo7vgc$s54$1@news3.tilbu1.nb.home.nl,
John7 <nosp@mm.com> fumbled, fiddled and fingered:

goto
Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs>Change/Remove Programs
and see if Q329170 is listed as an update if it is remove it.

plus

start > run > gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration> Administrative
Template
System > Logon > Maximum retries to unload and update user
profile ... set
enabled and to say 5 ... default if not configured is 60!!

There appears to be a hotfix available from MS (thanks Neo)
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;814770

but you will have to telephone MS to order it.

If you have SP4 then 329170 is already incorporated into the
system.

Also try shutting the spooler prior to system shutdown

Start
Run
type
net stop spooler
press OK

then shutdown

I was advised to check out http://asitis.org/node/view/26
In Folder Opties, turning off Offline Files did the job.
I reduced the unload count as well.

Thx,

John
