- Help with replacing win2000 server
- Posted by Brian Sears on November 4th, 2003
I have to replace an aging win2000 server with new
hardware. I would like to keep the same name, an infact
don't want to change anything but the hardware. This is
the domain controller for the network as well.
So my question is what is the best way to make this
happen so that I don't have to start from scratch. Any
and all ideas will be a big help.
Thanks
Brian

Starting from scratch will be the quickest way if you're replacing any
significant hardware, such as the motherboard.

I have had good success by doing this:
- While the disk is installed in the old server, replace the
current Master IDE Controller driver with the generic Microsoft
driver.
- Install the disk in the new server.
- Launch Win2000 and let PnP take care of the rest.
