AFAIK the file doesn't exist in Windows 2000 For the office problems try
uninstall, restart, reinstall and or ask them in office.* groups.

| Gentlepersons,

| I am running: OS - Windows 2000 Professional, build
2195, Service Pack 4
| MS/Internet Explorer V6.0.2800.1106
(The Version, Cipher Strength abd Product ID are no longer visible on the
|
"About" page when the browser is opened)
| PC - Toshiba Satelllite Pro 4300
Series
|
| Software involved with the Problem: Norton
Antivirus (NAV)
|
MS/Excel
|
| Problem: The file "sccbase.dll" does net exist (any
longer) on the hard drive. (I believe it should be in the
|
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32 folder.)
|
| Question: How to I replace this file?
|
| Everything was working as it should until I ran a defragmentation
of the hard drive 4 days days ago using Norton SpeedDisk. From then on,
when I try to open MS/Excel or an Excel file, NAV starts its scanning for
visrii. During this operation, it fails. The error message includes a link
to a Norton site which has a specific set of steps to correct a problem.
One of these steps is the instruction to perform a registry of 9 files from
the Command Prompt, "regsvr32 <file_name>. One of these files to be
registered is "sccbase.dll", i.e regsvr32 sccbase.dll. The error message
that comes back is,
|
| LoadLibrary"sccbase.dll" failed - Specified module could not be
found.
|
| Currently, Excel is not usable. Some other applications, e.g. Word, can
be oppened, but the error messages must be continually deleted to complete
the load. Excel goes wild and opens multiple files, none of which I asked
for and none are usable. An exhaustive search (the folder view options were
set to view all system files, including hidden files) of the hard drive
could not find the file or any part of "sccbase.dll". Also, I searched the
Windows 2000 Profession CD and could not find the file there. How may I
replace this file?
|
| Sincerely,
