How do I stop processes/tools from starting up automatically?
Posted by Dan on March 7th, 2004

Hallo
Where do I stop things from starting up? In the "tool bar" or quick launch
bar (don't know the real name of this bar; it's the bar where the volume
control, choice of language and other things appear when win starts up) I
have got a whole lot of garbage. How can I remove those things I don't want
or block not wished processes to start up? (I am speaking about the programs
that of course not are seen in the auto-start directory)
This is probably not a difficult question for you who are more familiar with
windows.
Thanks for help! Dan

Run msconfig.exe (http://www.svrops.com/svrops/dwnldoth.htm) and
use it to disable the unwanted tasks.

I think that suggestion is too simplistic. For example, the two cases
the OP mentioned can not be disabled from msconfig, AFAIK.

Generally, I think it's a matter of hunting down the relevant options in
the respective applications; most will have a tick box somewhere to
disable their presence in the notification bar, but some might not.
