How to enable HyperThread in Win2000 ?
Posted by Sunny on March 6th, 2004

Hi,
I have Win2000 PRO with Pentium 4 3.0GHZ HT ready. How do I enable
HyperThread in Win2000 ? Thank you.

You enable it in the system BIOS. Windows 2000 isn't actually aware of
hyperthreading; it will simply see 2 CPU's for every 1 physical HT
capable CPU.

Thanks..but how do I know my OS is seeing 2 CPU? I simply drop the HT CPU
into an existing Win2000..Should I re-install Win2000 so it can recognize HT
capability?

Thanks!

You need to upgrade the HAL (hardware abratraction layer) to the
multi-processor HAL. You cannot simply go from 1 process to 2 as the
HALs are different.

This link has basic instructions for upgrading the HAL.
