How to terminate program remotely?
Posted by Randy Pirtle on January 10th, 2004

I log into my work PC (Windows 2000 Professional) from
home PC using VPNS networking and VNC Viewer.

From time to time a program on my work PC will get a
program error and I need to terminate the program. the
only way I know to terminate the program would be to use
key combination "Ctrl-Alt-Del", select applications tab,
and terminate the program.

However, dialing in remotely as I do, this key combination
operates my home PC and not my work PC. In this
circumstance, how can programs be terminated without using
this key combination?

Any help appreciated.
Thanks!

Randy

WinVNC has a special menu item accessible via the VNC
logo in the top left hand corner. It says "Send Ctrl+Alt+Del"!

You can also right-click an empty spot on the Task bar,
select the Task Manager, then terminate the rogue task.

VNC and most remote controlling applications including PCAnywhere and SMS
remote supports sending the 3 finger salute to remote client. You can use
Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com as well to terminate a process at
remote location.
