Know a good file viewer?
Posted by Jonathan Finney on February 25th, 2004

Back in the dark old days of DOS, there were very competent file managers
such as X-tree and Lotus Magellan that allowed Explorer style browsing and
also had built-in viewers that gave a limited view of the contents of
selected files without having to launch the application.

QuickView went some of the way, but always seemed to lack the ability to
view common file types such as PDF and CAD files such as DXF, DWG etc.

Magellan also allowed you to specify file 'sets' based on a complex
specification that included file extension, location and other parameters.
This was particularly useful and I have been unable to find anything that
does the same job in Windows.

Surely there must be something out there somewhere? Does anybody know of
such a beast?
