login script not running on W2k
Posted by JS on November 27th, 2003

Hi,

We are in the process of migrating from a Novell server to AD. We are
still running the Novell client on our boxes for access to some parts
of the old network. We are using login scripts forced on users
through a GPO.

When a user logs in and uses the existing profile in c:\documents and
settings\user, the user does not get a login script. If I log in as
me and let W2K create a new user profile, c:\documents and
settings\me, I get the login script and it runs and works fine. If I
rename c:\documents and settings\user to c:\documents and
settings\user.old and let W2K create a new user profile, the login
script runs for the user.

I can move back and forth between the old profile and the new one all
day, and the old one never runs the login script and the new one
always does.

I copied over everything from the old profile to the new profile
except for ntuser.dat and the new profile still works. So I've
narrowed the problem down to some registry key under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER. But I have no idea where it could be from there.

If I use the old profile, which doesn't run the login script, I can
still run \\server\path\to\script.bat and the script runs just fine.
So I know the script runs under the old profile.

Any idea which registry key needs to be tweaked?

Thanks,
