Try John's suggestion. If it does not work, then get a free
copy of ptedit.exe from the PowerQuest site. This is a partition
table editor that lets you examine the boot sector for each
partition. I bet you have some wrong numbers in there -
Win98 ignores them but Win2000 objects to them. As to
what these numbers should be - your guess is as good as
mine. Fortunately, any change you make can be reversed,
as long as you jot down the original value.
