I have about 80 users setup to use one of seven mandatory user profiles
stored on a directory on a Windows 2000 server. About five users
intermittently get the following error and as a result, the profile is
not copied to their workstation when they log in. Other users who use
the same profile never get the error. When this happens, a window pops
up with the below message.
It looks like the mandatory user profile system is having a problem
copying something that is too long but the path it is copying from,
"Local Settings" (and below) does not exist in the source it is copying
from.
The exact file path that it is trying to copy in each case varies but
"Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5" is always the same
(the balance below that varies). A temporary fix is to go to "Control
Panel-Internet Options" and to select "Delete Files" and "Delete
Cookies" (perhaps "Delete Files" would be enough). If the user then logs
out and logs in, he gets the mandatory user profile without a problem.
It then works the rest of the day regardless of how many times the users
logs in or reboots the computer. The problem may come back again the
next day or a few days later.
This happens (so far) with 5 of the 80 users since I setup each user in
Active Directory to use the mandatory user profile about five months
ago.
What is causing this problem, where is it getting the "Local Settings"
data from (since it is not in the profile path) and what can I do to
prevent it from happening?
Thanks to anyone who can help me out.
