mscOnfig{2}.exe in process list
Posted by Mike on July 31st, 2003

I have been getting a process show up as mscOnfig{2}.exe
in the process list. When I look at CPU usage it will
spike to 100% every few seconds with nothing running on
the system. Memory usage is around 10000K for this
process,(total system memory is 256MB). If I end that
process then CPU usage returns to normal (around zero).
This doesn't seem to be a normal Microsoft process because
the letter after "c" is capitalized or it is a zero and
the number 2 is enclosed in curley braces. If I try to
open a virus checker when mscOnfig{2}.exe is running it
will not open. If I end the process it reappears after a
reboot or turning off the system. So it is somewhere on
the system, however if I go to explorer and search for it
nothing comes up. The computer runs slow when doing
multiple things or making lots of keyboard entries. It is
acting like when I had a virus that captured keystrokes a
few months back. Has anyone experienced this or could you
offer a suggestion.
Thanks
Mike
