Printer not visible to some LAN users
Posted by Tony Gilbert on October 14th, 2003

I have a small LAN running three Win2000 Pro machines in p2p via a 4-port
hub. One PC has a HP PSC700 series printer shared. Administrators on the
other machines can see and use the printer, but power users and below
cannot. They can see the host PC with a + sign, but no expansion when you
click it. Is there a security setting somewhere that would cause this to
happen?

Tony

PS: Tried to get an answer to this on win2000.security, but no takers...

IF you right click the printer on the host machine, goto properties,
followed by security, do the proper users have print permissions?

Hi Brian

I believe so ... NETWORK user has full privileges, EVERYONE has full
privileges, Users (MyPC/Users) has full privileges. Should there be another
security group specifically for LAN users, or do NETWORK and EVERYONE
include them??? I can't see why the Administrator on those machines can use
the printer, but not the users.
