No need to go to the registry. It's a tick box in the properies
of your network adapter (Control Panel / Network & Dial-up
Connections).

Where in the registery file do you go to hide you network icon on your
desktop in Win 2000 pro ?

Start | Run | mmc | Console | Add\Remove Snap-in... | Add... | Group Policy | Add | Finish | Close | OK | Local Computer | User Configuration | Administrative Templates | Desktop | Double-click Hide My Network Places on desktop | Enable | OK. Save this console and make a shortcut to it in Administrative Tools of the Control Panel.
