rundll.exe corrupted by virus: Need Advice
Posted by Eric Wooten on February 21st, 2004

I got hit w/ a hacktool virus embedded in rundll.exe. I can't find a
clean copy of the file anywhere to overwrite my corrupted one. Can
someone help me out w/ this? I'd prefer not to re-install Win2k if
possible.

I'm running Win2K 5.00.2195 SP4

I can't find "rundll.exe" in any standard Windows 2000 installation, all I
find is "rundll32.exe". I'd say it is safe to just nuke rundll.exe if
possible.

rundll.exe and rundll32.exe are the same thing I believe (an old
legacy app from Win95 days...) They are Microsoft Windows programs
that loads DLLs into memory so that they can be used by specific
programs or by Windows, so I can't just delete it. However, I think I
can overwrite rundll.exe w/ rundll32.exe and be OK. Know where I can
find a clean copy of rundll32.exe?

rundll.exe is not a Win2K component. Just delete it.
