- Posted by Orca on November 22nd, 2003
I caught that nasty w32 welchia worm that infected. My tech said to reinstall Windows. Now the machine asks for a service pack 2 cd... So I go to the Microsoft site on another computer and 1st download to a 3 ½ floppy… take the floppy to my computer and try to load it. It asked for service pack 2 “CD”…. So back to the borrowed computer…. Download to hard drive. Burn to cd. All SEEMS well…Nothing appears on the cd and I want to pull my hair out. What do I do? PLEASE HELP Thank you in advance. Orc

Hi Orca,
Go to the Service Packs page d/l the network version and burn it to CD for the whole thing.
To get completely rid of Welchia find the Symantec fix page on it. Print it, do everything
in the order it says, or it will come back.

I have already saved it to another computer, then tried to burn it to cd w/o success. I also saved it directly to a 3 1/2. that was no go also. The info just doesn't show up at the location. Where do I get the network version????
Thank you for responding

Hi
If you was able to save it to a diskette, you have downloaded the SP2 Express Installation (541 KB), and that is not SP2, only the startup stub to install SP2 over the Internet.
You will need to download the SP2 Network Installation (a 101 MB single file with the name W2ksp2.exe). To create a SP2 CD, you will need to *unpack* this file, and copy the i386 folder (with files and subfolders) to the CD. In other
words, when you are finished, you will have a CD that contains a folder with the name i386 at the root level (x:\i386 , where x is the drive letter for the CD-ROM)
Download SP2 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000...p2/sp2lang.asp
To unpack the file:
W2ksp2.exe /x:<some path here>
example:
W2ksp2.exe /x:C:\SP2Temp
