- Shutdown takes a long time
- Posted by Kevin on November 13th, 2003
All,
I'm running Windows 2000 Server w/SP4. When I restart the
server, it takes a long time to actually shutdown. It
sits at the teal blue screen for a while before shutdown
and rebooting. Does anyone know why it's doing this?

up if you look in the Event Log (Applications). Roaming profiles are not
saved. The problem lurks in spoolsv hanging onto hive handles.
Check out http://www.citrix4ge.de/ctxsffaq/index.htm#prof.
Robin Carron has provided a fix that forces the release. Userenv retries and
works. Brialliant!

Spoolsv? How do you know if that is the service that is
hanging? I tried Robins fix, but it hasn't fixed the
problem.

You were right. Q828153 discusses a hotfix for this
proble. Thanks.

Well, when Robin's fix worked for me it told me (Via Event Viewer) that
Spoolsv was the offending service,
If Robin's fix didn't work for you, we need to look at other options. Please
check Event Viewer - both System Log & Application Log - and let us know of
any errors reported at shutdown.

John,
Q828153 work for a couple of reboots and then it started
again. I think it may have to do with the security
template that I'm using. I just can't figure out what
settings are doing this. When I take the system back to
the setup_security.inf it shuts down fine.
