sometimes w2k hangs after bios post
Posted by lcap on January 26th, 2004

Hi,
recently I'm experiencing a strange hanging of my pc.
Sometimes, after bios post, when the little white bar at
the bottom should advance till the windows screen appears,
the system hangs with a small part of the bar advanced, no
error messages. Sometimes is hangs and then turns to black
screen. Ctrl+Alt+canc resets the system, and generally it
starts normally then. No problem once the system is
started, everything is fine. It seems like sometimes some
drivers hangs the start up. I tried to run ntdetect.chk,
but no messages appear during startup, a black screen
appears after post, and pressing F2 let the system start
normally. I also tried to re-format the system. All the re-
start procedures went fine, but after two o three
shutdown, the problem arose again.
Configuration is:
Mb Asus Cusl2
P III 800 MHz
2 HD Maxtor ata 100
256 Mb RAm
3D Hercules 9000 pro
Realtek Ethernet card
Soundblaster 128
Conexant internal modem
LG CD writer

Might want to try a 'boot.log' startup

Hi Icap,

I am running a CUSL2-Black Pearl. When the evil MS boot manager for my dual
boot box starts up I get the same behavior if I hit enter before atleast 5
seconds of the timer has run off. FYI
