It's spam to get you to buy a product, I've seen it as well

Thank you Jonathan
I had a web page open and was lookingover the source code for a particular
way they accomplished something.
Don't know how else it could have popped up.
Should I be concerned where it came from? These things make me so paranoid,
I need to change my last name to Murphy, I guess.

BTW, for a stand alone box on W2K, what are the bare bones Services, and
which can be turned off from default, if you don't mind my asking?

;-)

Hi,

Unfortunately I can't find a list from searching microsoft.com

Basically, disable what you recognize and know you don't need, but if it's
something that you don't know it's function, it's better to leave it

I believe it's just as you suspicioned(sp?). I looked at the cookies in
Ad-Aware just after, and one of them was Gator, although I haven't received
any of their popups recently, doesn't mean that they don't have popups
planted in browser sites that look just like an alert popup that someone
gets paid for. And I believe it probably would have loaded Gator on my box
if I had chosen OK, or at least soething to make them some money and screw
me up.

Thanks again Jonathon,

Look here don: http://www.theeldergeek.com/services_guide.htm

Scroll down to the bottom of the page. It's geared to XP but it's
pretty well the same for W2K, or NT for that matter.

This one is also a good one to consult:
http://www.answersthatwork.com/Taskl...s/tasklist.htm

so is this one: http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup...artup_full.htm

This too is handy: http://personal.cfw.com/~tkprit/files/serv.html
