- system fix
- Posted by alan on March 5th, 2004
My computer does not seem to hold any settings that I
apply to it. It will default back to original settings
after every shut down. Also, video card seems to be not
working fully. Sounds speratic at times. In additon to
those problems the system allows me to down load new
software but will not allow me to use it. Is this a driver
problem or something else? Can a fix be found though micro
soft? Thanks for any help or advice. Alan

Alan,
This depends on how you are setup, are you logging onto
the server as administrator but a user on the client
machine? This might explain part of the problem.
Regarding the video card if it is sporadic but works fine
for extended periods of time it might be one of a couple
different problems. If your machine is older and you turn
it off every night you could have creepage (sp) or even
dirty contacts. If it's an older machine I'd pull the
cover off use some air and clean it out then reset the
card (if it's not onboard video). Another possible
problem could be the monitor connection or the monitor
itself, when card is working fine gently move the
connections around. If your monitor starts to act up then
it's possible you're due for a new cord or you have to
secure the connection better.
Hope this helps,
Bill
