Trouble deleting files
Posted by Paul on March 7th, 2004

I have been trying to clean up some space on my hd and I
was trying to delete some large files. I keep getting a
sharing violation and it will not let me delete the files
or rename them or anything else. These files are all 100
meg or more. What do I need to do to fix this? Anybody
have an answer?

Thanks

Press F8 during the early boot stage, then boot up in Safe
Mode and delete the files.

That's fine and everything, but what do you think is the
cause of the sharing violation? I would like to fix more
than just the symptons.

You can try and find out what locks your files by running one
of these tools:

nthandle.exe from www.sysInternals.com
oh.exe (Win2000 Resource Kit)
compmgmt.msc"-Shared Folders-Open Files

Once you know what application locks up the files, you
need to explorer that particular application.
