Unable to stop DLLHOST.EXE and AppMgmt serivce
Posted by John Smith on February 22nd, 2004

Hi, I have a problem with DLLHOST.EXE which I am unable to kill. Even if I
use the kill -f the process is ended but relaunched immediately after. I
noticed that it took going on the same PID numbers so I tried to create a
batch file to kill it, though without the hoped results. I dont have the
necessary knowledge to go further and not even much time to spend on it. The
file properties say it is a COM+ surrogate, although I do not use COM+
services and these are currently stopped. The only one clue I could relate
to this, is the service Application Management (AppMgmt) which remains
active without evident needs.

I would like to know if there is a manner to take again control of my
system, stopping the process DLLHOST.EXE and ending the service AppMgmt
wihtout rebooting or doing kamikaze actions like killing the whole stack
services.

Thanks!

Normally, DLLHOST is a system process, and you should not see it in Task
Manager or tlist, nor should you trying to kill it, unless you don't mind
taking some unfinished processes with it. There is a w32.welchia.worm, which
copies itself to %System%\Wins\Dllhost.exe.
